2006 Cobalt New Key Theft Learn Procedure

I bought a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LT without a key, I got a key cut so I could get in the car, but It will not start the car do I have to take it to a dealership?

Try this procedure. If for some reason it does not work, then it will have to go to the dealer so they can use a scanner to re-learn the theft system. Expect to pay 1/2 hour labor for that.

Answer:

1. With a vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Observe the security indicator. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
2. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
Important: The vehicle learns the key transponder information and/or passwords on the ignition switch transition from OFF to RUN. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
With the key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information and/or the ECM has now learned the fuel continue password.

Chevy Cobalt Won's Start

2005 Chevy Cobalt Engine Size : 2.2L. Question : my headlamps turn on, car wont start and interior lights don't work but 12v AC plugin.

Answer: Not a lot of info to go on there, but here are some things you can check. If the car does not crank, you could have a bad battery or a bad starter. If the car cranks but does not start, you could have a bad fuel pump or a no spark condition. You could even have a theft deterrent problem if the security light stays on all the time. Body control modules sometimes go bad and cause situations like that, but I doubt that is your issue. You're going to need to have a qualified technician look at the car.

Chevy Cobalt Lock Symbol

The car with lock symbol appears on my 2008 Chevy Cobalt. it starts but it dies while driving? Any ideas what this could be? Thanks.

Answer: The lock symbol means there is a problem in the security system. If you have a non-factory alram or remote start, the problem may be there. Those aftermarket system always cause problems with the factory theft system.
