(P) Passenger (P-Metric) Tire- The United States version of a metric tire sizing system. The letter P as the first character in the tire size means a passenger vehicle tire engineered to standards set by the U.S. Tire and Rim Association.
One way to tell when it is time for new tires is to check the tread wear indicators, which will appear when your tires have only 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) or less of tread remaining. These indicators are flat spots between the treads.
Tires should be checked for abnormal wear patterns periodically. Just rub your hand around the tire and feel for roughness, flat spots, or feathering.

Rotate tires every 6,000 miles. See this picture for proper procedure. On many late model Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Cadillac and Oldsmobile cars and trucks, the Tire Pressure Monitor(TPM) system must be relearned so the system will know where each tire is located.
