Question: whats wrong when my truck shuts off when Im making a complete stop? What signs can I look for a bad alternator? I know the battery light can be on, but I want to know what else?
Answer: Several things can cause stalling when coming to a stop. you could have a vacuum leak, which causes a lean condition. There could be carbon buildup in the throttle body. The Idle Air Control motor (IAC) may also be carboned up or faulty. Look for a vacuum leak first. Lights flickering or dimming when the engine speed is low, stalling and then the battery needs to be jump started are signs of a bad alternator. Eventually the battery will be so weak that the truck won't stay running.
