2001 Chevy Silverado Truck Question: I can start my truck and it dies if i keep giving it gas it will stay on but as soon as let off the gas the Silverado dies.

Answer: You could have a couple different issues that are causing your problem. There may a restriction in the intake path that won't let the truck idle normally, such as a dirty air filter or carbon build up inside the throttle body. When you give it gas, you are opening the throttle blade and allowing more air in to compensate for a restriction. If you have a lot of miles on the truck, I would make sure the air filter is clean and/or new, and make sure there is no blockage in the induction tubing. Then attempt to clean the throttle body with a good cleaner (brake clean, hog wash, etc). That usually takes care of most of these types of complaints, but there are a couple more things to check. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, you should check the fuel pressure at the fitting on the fuel line near the injectors. A good reading is around 55psi for your truck, and anything below 45psi needs investigating. If it's low, you could have a clogged fuel filter, or a fuel pump that is about to go out. One last thing to check is to make sure the security light is not flashing on the dash when the truck is running with all the doors closed. If it is, that is what is killing your fuel signal and not letting the truck run, and would possibly be a faulty Passlock sensor, body control module, or PCM.

GMC Sierra Will Not Shut Off

Hello, my GMC 1996 Sierra truck will not shut off after ignition is in off position only if the lights are on..  When I shut off lights , engine will stop and all is normal. When I turn lights on again, I am unable to shut off truck..HELP.

If you have some sort of alarm on the truck, have that checked since they tap into the ignition and lighting systems. If not, then you have a short somewhere. Possibly in the wiring in the steering column. Try moving harnesses around under the dash when it is acting up to see if you can get it to change at all. Pull on under hood harnesses as well.

    I've got a 2003 Silverado. Nice pickup, <br />but lately I'd start it, warm it up, <br />and then it dies for no reason when I get out of the driveway, <br />or when I back up all of a sudden.<br />Steering box has had a krinking noise for over a year now<br />and engine light is on. Then it goes off for no reason and guage's are reading wrong so I can't tell what speed I'm going, or the oil pressure light is way off.

    Got the codes scanned for the check engine light. Possible bad instument gauge cluster for the gauges problem. May have carbon buildup in the throttle or leaking intake manifold gaskets for the dies out problem.
