2006 Chevrolet Impala Burns Oil and Level Light On

2006 Chevy Impala 3.5v6. Warning lights = Engine oil level low. No external leaks.
Twice the engine oil level low has come on.i use Valvoline 5w-30 full synthetic oil and change oil and filter every 5,000 miles.there are no external leaks. what is causing this problem?

Is the oil level actually low or not?

The oil level is 2qts low. This is the second time this has happened. There are no external leaks and I know there is no PCV valve. There has to be something internally allowing the oil to bypass.

Answer: These engines do burn oil. If it is low after 5k miles, this is considered normal. The engine oil has to be checked between oil changes.
1/2 quart burned every 1000 miles is normal. Under more aggressive or constant extended highway driving, up 1 quart every 1500 miles is normal.
