The car hasn't made any noise, and no indicator lights have come on at all. The problem is that the power steering isn't working. It has the right amount of fluid in it . As far as I can see there are no leaks. I was just wondering where I should start? If its the pump? Or if its the rack and pinion? Or if its something simple like vacuum problems or an dialectical issue?

Repairs for this problem = checked the fuse.
Question = the fog lights on the car won't come on. The fuse is good. there is no power to the switch as it doesn't light up when turned on. And the head light switch is in the proper position for them to work. I doubt the switch is bad we don't get to much fog, and the switch feels correct when pushed on.

Olds Alero Heater Fan and Defrost Vent Position Problem

I recently bought an 01 Oldsmobile Alero. The heater vent fan works, but only on the two highest settings, which is not a big problem. However, I just noticed that the knob that you turn to go from vent to vent/floor to defroster does not work. I can twist that knob, but the air only comes out of the vents, nothing comes out on the floor or the defrost settings.

I believe my heater/AC motor my be going out but I am not sure. It works sometimes but tends to start making a rattling noise when i slow down or come to a stop and than stops blowing air. It will blow air out really well and than blow very little air if any at other times. Would anybody know what I should check to see what I need to replace.

Question: I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. The problem is that the car runs , but when i make a stop at a red light or at a stop sign the car turns off and I have to turn it back on, this happens every time I make a stop, it doesn't stall when the car is running only when I make a stop.

Cannot find the root of the problem. Car suddenly surges,

stays stuck under 30mph on acceleration, hear a "bump" in rear, unable to accelerate quickly when getting on expressway. The surge occurs when I drive & go on a main street or expressway, cold engine mostly. Also sometimes when I start ignition, there is a sudden, loud vibration when the car starts.

2004 Oldsmobile Alero Engine Size : 2.2L.

Question: We just replaced the windshield wiper motor on my car but the windshield wiper arms are out of alignment. When in the "off" position the wipers stop upwards on the windshield rather than at the bottom. Tried to position them several different ways but they still seem to be off. Could we have put the bar that the motor mounts to upside down or the wrong way? any suggestions would be appreciated.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero Check engine soon.

Question= my car has a clicking/clunking noise under the hood. I was in a drive thru one day and the car just sputtered out. The people at the drive thru said it had white smoke coming off of it. A few weeks before it just overheated for no reason. I went and got oil and put in because the low oil light was on even though the dipstick showed it only needed one quart.

Buying a Used Car ?

I have an opportunity to purchase an Olds Alero and it will be close to to $2250. Looks real good but with 100,000 miles is it a good idea. At 64yrs old and not a mechanic I''ll be driving not more than about 100 miles at a time. What questions should I ask the young high school grad who''s selling it to go into the marines.
