2001 Chevy Malibu SES Light Codes For Evap Emissions System

Problem with my  2001 Chevy Malibu 3.1.
Warning lights = CEL
Repairs- 2 gas caps, vent valve, purge solenoid.
question = CEL on,replaced gas cap and CEL remained on-replaced vent valve & 9 days later CEL came on-replaced with different style gas cap-10 days later CEL came on again-replaced purge solenoid,2 days later CEL on again,
I have spent 4 out of the last 5 weekends at Pep Boys!!!!

Well, i really need to know EVAP emissions code that came up with the computer scan. Without it, i would be guessing. Which is what has seemed to be going on at the repair shop. You may have a code for a small leak, large leak, vent valve circuit, purge during no-purge, etc.

Check Gas Cap Message On Dash

2005 Chevy  Malibu.
Engine Size - 6 cylinder. Question Chevrolet Malibu 2005 6 cyl and the check engine light symbol is coming on with a message that says check gas cap. I replaced the gas cap after two weeks the same symbol and message is reappearing, what should I do?

Answer: The check engine light causes the message to tighten gas cap when there is a certain code stored in the computer. This can be misleading. The code is P0455. With a scan of the computer codes, this will show. It means the PCM detected a "Large Leak" in the evaporative emissions system. A large leak is seen by the system as a loose or missing gas cap, since the system is not sealed by it. The problem is that there are several things that can give the same condition of large leak, but the PCM cannot differentiate between them. It just knows there is a leak. Most common is a problem in the vent solenoid valve. This is located in the rear of the car, on the top of the right side of fuel tank for the new body style Malibu, and in the rear of the drivers side wheel wheel on the Malibu classic.
