2001 Chevy Impala Check Engine Light And Misfire

2001 Chevy Impala 3.8 V6. Check engine light. Misfire on cylinder 6. Repairs: Changed plugs wires and coil pack for that cylinder. Also changed air filter.
The engine idles fine but when you try to accelerate it has no power and sputters a lot and will not accelerate also does get somewhat hot and there is the smell of rotten eggs. what is causing this and how do i fix it?

Answer: If the only misfire is on cylinder #6, then i would suspect either a bad fuel injector or mechanical problem. You would need to verify that the spark to the plug is good, and then the injector is firing or not. A fuel pressure gauge with a scanner to fire the fuel injector is needed to check that. If there is spark and fuel, then you may have a mechanical problem with that cylinder, like a bent valve or broken valve spring. But a single cylinder misfire would not cause such a loss of power and the smell. This makes me think you have a plugged catalytic converter. The telltale sign of that is extreme loss of power and the rotten egg smell. To be certain an exhaust back pressure check would need to be done, or disconnect the exhaust from the rear manifold of see if it it runs better.

Impala SS Belt Diagram

2007 Chev Impala SS. Engine Size : 5.3L. Question: Give as much detail as possible. : i need diagram to put fan belt on.

Replacement of the belt on the Chevy Impala with the V8 engine is quite difficult. There is a special tool that is needed to relieve tension of the belt tensioner. The tool is along skinny bar with a fitting on the end. Te only other way to get the belt off without this tool, is to remove the passenger side wheel, and look down at the very bottom of the engine just above the frame rail. There you will find the belt tensioner. It looks like a shock or spring. You will need to use pry bar and pry up on the spring/shock which is the tensioner. Then with the other hand you can remove the belt from the lower crankshaft pulley. Go under the hood and remove the belt, then route the new belt properly. Click the button labeled "belts" from the menu bar at the top of this page for a diagram.

2006 Chevrolet Impala Won't Start

2006 Chevy impala lt 3.9 liter cranks over fine but no spark and no fire got good fuel pressure.

Answer: If the engine has no spark and no fuel injector pulse, then it sounds like the crankshaft position sensor is faulty. When they go bad, the PCM does not know the engine is cranking over because it does not see engine RPM, so it does not try to start- no spark or injectors. Before replacing it though, be sure to check all the underhood fuses first. Keep it simple first.
