Ignition Switch Replaced but Olds Intrigue Still Wont Start

Question: Will not crank. Changed ignition switch. Still no crank all fuses are good. Do not know what to check now.

Answer: There are several things to check for a no crank condition. First, see if the security or theft light stays on after you try to start and it does not. When you release the key from the crank position- do not turn to off; the theft or security light should not be on or blinking. If it is, a common cause for this is the Passlock cylinder. Assuming the battery is good, next you need to use a test light connected to the purple wire on the starter and a good ground. Then crank the engine. The test light should light. If it does, then the starter is bad.

I replaced ignition when key is turned to the crank position then released the security light flashes.there still is no crank.I tried to leave key on 10min off 5sec 3 times still the same. thank you jim

OK, you have a theft system problem. This is not the correct theft re-learn procedure you are doing. See this link below. It is for a Chevy Impala, but is the same for your Oldsmobile.

If this does not correct it temporarily, the Passlock cylinder may need to be replaced. This is if the car does not have a non-factory alarm or remote start- these systems can cause problems with the factory system.

I Tried resetting the flashing security light with the cycle of 10 minutes on, and 5 seconds off for 3x. Security light stopped flashing after the first 10 minutes and just stayed lit. As soon as I tried to start the car after the complete cycle, there was no crank and the security light started flashing again.

Then you have a problem in the security system. Most likely the passlock key cylinder. This is why the relearn wont work.

I now have the security light to go out when turn to crank and release . Still no engine roll over and no power to the purple wire.

Well, if the security had a problem, now it does not, this is a problem. You now need a schematic to follow the crank circuit to find out why no power to purple wire.

Question: How to start 1998 Oldsmobile intrigue with no key?

Answer: You can't. You will need to get a new key and have it programmed.

I found nothing helpful out there so far. I have an intrigue that has power to the crank relay and when you turn the key it does not get signal to the starter relay /if you jump it I can hear the fuel pump for a few second/it will start and die. I have no power to secondary circuit. I replaced the Ignition switch [worn out] and it was doing the same before. I'm thinking security is locked out but cannot find a schematic on the car to tell me how it is wired.

I replaced the ignition switch last night. I have power to everything but it wont turn over. The theft lock isn't flashing and I'm not sure what else it could be.

You will need to test for power at the purple wire on the starter while turning the key. If it does have power, then the starter is bad.

When you reset the security with the key after the 3 time of 10 minutes you have to let it sit for 5 minutes then try to start it
