2009 Toyota Corolla A/C Not Blowing Cold

2009 Toyota Corolla
Engine size: 2.4L.
Question = During the summer time my wife was complaining about her a/c not blowing cool/cold for at least a minute. We were unable to take it to the dealership during the summer time and was just recently able to take it to the shop

to see if the could find anything wrong with it. They checked the pressures and freon level everything seemed to be at the correct levels. I sat it the car with the service manager on a 70* day it still took 20-30 secs. before it started to blow cold, what was coming out was cool just took 20-30secs before it actually blew cold.

What do you think could be wrong or does it sound normal? Apples to Oranges my Ford F150 at 110* outside temp will still blow cool when a/c first turned on but not hotter than it seems outside at first then really really slowly start blowing cool air and eventually cold like my wife's car does. Service manager thought I was crazy. Thanks.

Answer: First off, different cars and trucks act differently. Even different models of the same make / car line can act different, such as a Toyota Corolla compared to a Toyota Camry or Rav4. All vehicles have their own characteristic. Your air conditioning produces a temperature differential relative to the outside air. Hence if it is 120 degrees outside it will not get as cold inside.

Humidity also plays a huge role in how cold the A/C blows. A couple things to check (when the car hasn't been run for an hour or so) would be to open the hood start the car and look to see if the fans come on immediately when you turn the a/c on. IF they don't and only come on when the car warms up then you probably have a faulty a/c fan relay. If they do come on and it doesn't seem that the a/c gets cold right away try spraying some water on the Condenser core. It's that radiator looking thing in front of the actual radiator. The water conducts heat way better than air and will act to cool the refrigerant better for a little while till the water evaporates.

Right after spraying water on the condenser core see if the a/c is then Ice cold. If it is not then it is a possibility that your temp control system is taking a while to shift the air to run across the evaporator core instead of the heater core. If all checks out OK, and the dealer could not find anything wrong, i would have to say this is a normal condition for this vehicle.

Question: On my multimeter it show the old battery at 10. The new battery showed 12.8 car not running. Car running the meter show 13.9. I guess the alternator is okay too.

Answer: Yes, the old battery is testing bad, the new one is good. The charging system is charging at 13.9, so yes the alternator is fine. Do you have a problem starting the car?
