2000 Chevy S10. 4.3L Vortec. Question: Hi i have no temp gauge or gas gauge transmission and millage only work when key is in on but when motor is running they go out .Dome light only work on over ride or thumb wheel not when you open door.
Park lights do not go off in daytime .I have changed the gauge cluster 3 times and checked all grounds at least a 1/2 dozen times same thing every time what next.
Answer: The fuel level gauge not working could just be the very common problem of the level sender in the tank on the fuel pump module. The fingers on the resistor corrode and cause it to be erratic or not work at all. With the temp and gear indicator and odometer, these things are displayed from internal logic within the dash cluster, from information sent to it from the powertrain computer (PCM).
If you have replaced the cluster several times with the EXACT same results, then you either have a PCM problem, or a wiring problem on the communication line between the computer and the dash cluster (IPC). A dark green wire sends data to the IPC for the temperature, gear indicator (PRNDL), and the odometer / speedometer. Not to say this is your problem, since you could also have a vehicle speed sensor problem for the speedometer and odometer, or a gear shift position switch on the trans for the PRNDL. But these could also all be related. Best is to get a scanner and see if the computer is seeing the correct inputs from these items. If it is, then i would suspect the computer or wiring problem.
